Westwood Care Home
21 Doncaster Road, Selby, YO8 9BT
Westwood’s charm and appeal as a care home lies in its blend of beautiful Victorian architecture, large leafy garden and the warmth of a close-knit community. Our small size means we are an intimate and deeply personalised care setting, where staff and residents are very much like an extended family. This offers our residents the consistency, familiarity, and reassurance they need to thrive.
We all enjoy socialising together here and we aim to bring unique experiences to our residents’ days as often as possible, all fuelled by nutritious, home-cooked meals and snacks prepared on-site by our dedicated cooks. We prioritise nutritional health and hydration, offering freshly baked goods for our residents to enjoy and a selection of refreshing drinks throughout the day.
Our programme of activities includes arts and crafts, music sessions, fitness activities, pet therapy, and food tasting experiences to name but a few! The involvement of family, friends, and the local community is integral to our ethos, and we regularly organise events and collaborative projects that enrich the lives of our residents through connection with the wider community.
Bright, fresh and homely
Westwood Bedrooms
At Westwood we offer ten individual bedrooms and three companion rooms, which are ideal for residents who prefer to share their space with a friend or loved one.
Each bedroom is designed to provide a warm, homely atmosphere, featuring high ceilings, natural light and views of our leafy garden in most cases. We furnish every room with a profile bed and a three-piece furniture set for storing clothes and personal items. To further enhance the feeling of home, residents are encouraged to decorate their rooms with personal ornaments and photographs, creating a personal space that is familiar and comforting from the moment they arrive.
Shared Spaces
We encourage an ethos of activity and enjoyment every day here at Westwood, and support our residents to make the most of our inviting communal area. Our dining and living room is the heart of our home here, and a place where residents can sit and chat, join in with activities, enjoy meals together, and appreciate views of the garden.
We also warmly welcome visits from friends and family, and are always ready to extend our hospitality with hot drinks and delicious baked treats.
We take great pride in our spacious garden, which is the perfect place to relax – listening to the birds or watching the world go by. We love to say hello to passers-by, several of whom now regularly stop to chat with us. The garden is also an ideal setting for events and activities. We recently appointed a new gardener who is diligently redesigning the garden, bringing lots of new plants and flowers to our borders.
We have plenty of seating outside and shade is offered by a row of mature trees running along the garden boundary. This natural shade making it the perfect spot for relaxation and enjoyment, especially in spring and summer months.
Wellness & activities
Staying happy and healthy
Self-care, keeping active, enjoying hobbies and maintaining social connections are very important for mental and physical wellbeing. We do everything we can here at Westwood to support these priorities for each of our residents.
We receive regular visits from hairdressers, chiropodists and movement specialists so our residents can look and feel their best.
We like to offer a varied calendar of activities for residents including music, arts and crafts, animal therapy, and fitness sessions. Seasonal activities are particularly popular as they foster a strong sense of connection to the community and the wider world. While we encourage participation in these activities, we always respect the individual preferences of our residents, including their desire for quiet time.

Food & Drink
Our residents enjoy the comfort of traditional meals and home-baking every day. Our wonderful kitchen team prepare all meals from scratch on site, carefully tailoring them to meet the individual dietary needs of our residents.
We also actively seek feedback from our residents so we can continuously improve our menus and adapt them to individual tastes. Nutrition and hydration are key priorities for us, and we work closely with local GPs and district nurses to ensure that we are effectively assisting our residents in achieving their dietary aims.

Each bedroom at Westwood is equipped with a standard wash basin for convenience, and we have assisted bathrooms on both floors with seated hoists. On the ground floor, where residents typically spend most of their day, we have an additional washroom to cater for residents and visitors during the day.
